A new store, incorporating actual physical elements of the former restaurant, will open in the fall of 2008. The new building, to be located at 1090 N. Business 35, will be nestled in a scenic, tree filled setting just around the corner from the original restaurant's former location. Retaining as much of the rustic look as possible by reusing the tables, chairs and signage from the original restaurant, the new location will also feature such modern amenities as a drive-through window and top of the line kitchen facilities. The new location will feature a deli and store that will continue to provide customers with the restaurant favorites, smoked meats, condiments and country store items that have always been a staple at the Smokehouse.
In addition to the new location, the company owns a meat processing plant near downtown New Braunfels that encompasses nearly 35,000 square feet of space. The plant processes and ships over 150,000 packages a year by sales generated through the company's website and mail order business. More than two million New Braunfels Smokehouse catalogs were distributed in 2007.
New Braunfels Smokehouse has been a landmark institution since it first opened as an ice plant in 1945. The local full-service restaurant was opened six years later and has been in continuous operation since that time.
